How to Keep Lost Weight, OFF!
Have you ever gotten super fit, lost a ton of weight, looked amazing, only to GAIN ALL OF THE WEIGHT BACK?!
Did you lose that weight through a diet?
Did said diet require you to completely eliminate an entire food group? like say... BREAD?!
And then that diet was over and you were going out to dinner with friends because it was your friend's birthday and you just want to live a normal life and hang out and go to birthday parties and have a glass of wine and even a slice of bread before the food comes out but you haven't had it in like WEEKS so you maybe have 2 slices of bread or even 4 and then you order pasta because PASTA and then the next day you're like "F IT" because last night was just a TOTAL LOSS and so you buy a box of cereal (mmmmmm CEREAL) and then you eat the whole BOX because OMG you haven't had Reese's Puffs in SO long and YOLO.
OK. THAT RIGHT THERE. First of all. There's nothing wrong with carbs. Or bread. Or cereal. I LOVE THEM ALL. BUT what happened was your fad diet created an all or nothing mentality around those foods. You restricted them for weeks, and then when you were free of your fad diet you may have over indulged and binged causing maybe an "F THIS" mentality. Spiraling into gaining your weight back OR just giving up on your goals.
In order to be FIT FOR LIFE (#12WeeksToForeverFit APPLY HERE for my program) you must develop healthy habits around health and fitness. That doesn't mean fad dieting. That doesn't mean restricting and binging. It means setting ONE goal at a time. Developing habits around those goals. and HAVING PATIENCE. Slow and steady wins the race.
HOW TO DEVELOP HABITS
HEALTH AND FITNESS.
1. KNOW YOUR WHY
WHY are these goals so important to you? What is at stake in your life? If you don't know WHY you care about your goals... why on earth would you take the steps to achieve them?!
Did your doctor tell you you're at risk for a stroke? Heart Disease? Cancer?
Does osteoporosis run in your family?
Do you want to set a good example for your kids?
Do you want to look hot AF on the beach this summer?
WHY THE F ARE THESE GOALS IMPORTANT TO YOU?!
Know your WHY and you will have a much easier time getting to your goals.
2. SET ACHIEVABLE GOALS
Just as I mentioned above... is restricting bread and completely removing bread from your diet something that you can reasonably sustain in your life forever? NO!?
THEN DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One. Step. At. A. TIME.
If you haven't been to the gym in 5 years I think it's pretty UNreasonable to set a goal of going to the gym 7 days a week for 2 hours. Let's start with a 20 minute workout maybe. THAT sounds reasonable. (sample some kick-ass 20 minute workouts in my E-Book HERE)
Set realistic goals. Once you have achieved one realistic goal... CONGRATS. Now set a new one.
3. FIND SOMETHING TO KEEP YOU ACCOUNTABLE
Get your calendar out now and schedule in your workouts. SCHEDULE IT IN LIKE IT IS LIFE OR DEATH BECAUSE IT IS!!!
THIS IS YOUR LIFE!!
SHOW UP for yourself.
Would you miss your best friend's wedding?
Would you arrive late for a work meeting?
NO YOU WOULDN'T!
So treat yourself the same way. Take yourself seriously. Take your goals seriously. SHOW UP for your goddamn self. OKAY? OKAY.
ALSO- FIND A BUDDY!!
When someone KNOWS about your goals and is equally invested in your goals as you are... it can be a WHOLE HELL of a lot easier to reach 'em.
